Congratulations Robert A. Saxton, PhD! 2023 ICIS-Regeneron New Investigator Award for Excellence in Cytokine & Interferon Research Winner
Edward Chuong is an Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado Boulder. He received his Ph.D. in Genetics from Stanford University as an NSF Graduate Research Fellow. There he discovered that many gene regulatory elements active in the placenta are derived from endogenous retroviruses, which originate from ancient viral infections. He continued to study these elements as an HHMI Jane Coffin Childs Fellow at the University of Utah, where he discovered that some endogenous retroviruses have been evolutionarily domesticated to regulate critical antiviral genes during the interferon response.
